I've been playing for a little over 10 years now. I picked up my first sticks while at school, They were given to me by my teacher to play the kit in front of my music class. I found that I could keep a straight beat fairly well. I'd always wanted to play an instrument and after discovering a feel for them, drums was the way I wanted to go. After that, I learnt to play by hitting furniture, tapping my feet and generally getting on my family's nerves at the dinner table.
I take my influences from a lot of different drummers, old and new. I could write a list as long as my arm but a few of my favourites include Neil Peart (Rush), Dave Grohl (Nirvana), Lars Ulrich (Metallica), John Bonham (Led Zepplin), Matt Cameron (Soundgarden & Pearl Jam) and Sean Kinney (Alice In Chains).
I play a TAMA Superstar Rock Kit with an Iron Cobra double kick pedal. I'm still working out my best cymbal line up but I'm leaning more towards Sabien, I've used a mutlitude of different cymbals over the years and the AAX series is definitley the best I have used so far.
I like to say my drumming is fairly straight forward with moments of flair to spice it up, the grooves are simple but, they are powerful and very effective, It doesn't take too much away from the lead guys which, is where the main focus should be. I'll leave you with this, There is a line from a film which pretty much sums up how life should be to me... that includes society, religion and morality... "Be excellent to each other"... cookies for those who can name that film. In the mean time, keep rocking out and supporting your local bands. Without you, the avid fan and listener, there is no music!
